Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you what could have been one of the greatest casting coups in cinema history
That
fake poster just made 30 million dollars. But, while it’s a fun
proposition, it wouldn't have any real effect on the quality of the
movie.
You know what would? If Bryan Cranston had played Lex Luthor instead of Jesse Eisenberg in Batman V Superman.
They should have cast Heisenberg instead of Eisenberg (YEAAAAAAAAAAAH!).
Look, BVS had a lot of
issues but chief among them was the absolutely abysmal Jesse Eisenberg.
I understand what they were going for, but it backfired spectacularly.
He was horrid.
The Extended Cut
significantly improves the movie and it could have been further improved
if *The Cran Man* (Patent Pending) had been cast as Luthor. I’m not
going to go into detail as to why he would have made a good Lex Luthor,
okay, I’ll give you one reason; he’s Bryan f*cking Cranston.
Imagine
the climactic Heli-pad scene between Superman and Luthor with Cranston
at the helm. Now that would have been some scene. Even his back and
forths with Holly Hunter would be drastically improved. We know Cranston
can turn the ‘menace’ up to 11. Also, the character of Luthor would
have been altered a little bit if Cranston had played the role; it would
have been much closer to his comic-book personality.
Eisenberg
came across as a whiny child that would squeal in terror if Batman or
Superman came knocking. But Cranston? He would have been the one who
knocks!
Let me put it this way, I would give
the Cinematic Cut of BVS a 5.5/10 and the Extended Cut a 7/10. With
Cranston as Luthor in the Extended Cut; I’d imagine it would be 8/10.
It wouldn't have made BVS perfect by any means, but it would have improved it significantly.
What do you think Heisenberg?
