Realistically?
Easy.
The U.S. Military is the most powerful armed force to ever exist in history. That's a fact that can't be argued with. That being said, let's take into consideration what a zombie is.
The average zombie is a creature that moves at a slow pace, can only physically infect you if it bites or scratches you, or you are exposed to some of the fluids it contains.
If a zombie outbreak occurred, it would be a situation that would call for an immediate deployment of U.S. Troops once the cities and medical facilities started falling.
There would be hundreds of thousands of the National Guardsmen who will be in charge of keeping the civilians safe and making sure that there are holes in those rotton bastards. They would deploy across the entire United States, setting up Safezones and Forward Operating Bases. The F.O.B would hold the basic military equipment such as Humvees, MRAP's, Apache Attack Helicopters, A10 Warthogs, Black Hawk & Chinook Helicopters, Bradleys, AC Gunships & More. Obviously, since a Zombie Apocalypse is something that would put the entire country at a life or death situation, there would be an entire military deployment. The Marines would be involved as well providing infantry & air support combined with the Army/Air Force.
There would be Safezones setup to keep the non-infected civilians protected. There would be more than enough MREs, Water Shipments, Clothes Shipments and Hygiene Essential Shipments to keep everyone, including the soldiers in good condition. There would be sanitation rules, water treatment, health screenings, strict curfews, constant patrols made by armed convoys and soldiers.
Let's not forget the Hell being unleashed on the walkers in the heavy populated areas either.
The U.S. Army & Marines combined against a force that moves slow and doesn't even shoot back? Easy. It's not like they will be standing in one place shooting and not being able to move if a horde comes up on them.
There would be extreme amounts of firepower being rained on those hordes by the Air Force and Air Capabilities of the Army & Marines.
“But zombies don't get scared, they'll keep coming even if you flex your strength at them”
Yeah, listen.
They will come at anything they think is a meal. The Military will strategize against them very easily, and there will be constant plans and tactics learned and executed on them.
Air Superiority wins wars as well, as well as having a more advanced and better trained military as the enemy.
These walkers are the enemy, an enemy that can't even shoot back or run for cover. This is child's play. I'm already expecting the comments about the World War Z Book, or how overwhelming zombies are.
In Zombie Films why do we never see the military getting overrun? Because it's impossible.
Yeah, sure, there are some of them who show that, but military geeks like myself can point out every little unrealistic detail about it. It's impossible.
Unless the military was infected itself, then no, zombies aren't winning anytime soon.
