As many have heard many are claiming the 2049 is the better. Most commonly people talking about the intese visuals.
While the original had to rely on many practical effects, 2049 utilizes both. With a mastery of each. First point for 2049.
Secondly my first complain about the original was always that I had wished it was longer! 1:57 just was not enough time in that world. Even whenever multiple cuts were released the length still stayed much the same. With the 2049 I was fairly happy it closed in on almost 3 hours! Second point for 2049
And thirdly the atmosphere. The original as we all know is almost entirely atmosphere. Which is why I and many others requested a longer movie or multiple cuts because the world was so vivid and realized. The new one comes off as much more a Sci-Fi first, and a noir secondly. This ultimately means for many that it is easier to sit through.
But honestly they are right. Multiple times I was at the edge of my seat anxious over survival of the characters.
And to point out Blade Runner (1982) we all felt this way as Deckard hunted through the streets and hunted through Sebastions apartment.
But in 2049 we felt anxious during the introduction, Casino walk through, Elvis Stage hunt, Junkyard ship Crash, Final fight near the water, etc, etc.
I cannot help feel ultimately more blown away by this film and I think many would be hardpressed to say the original out does 2049.
Blade Runner 2049 actually did overcome the original in quality!
