Black Panther
had a great opening, and with the amazing word-of-mouth and the
critical acclaim, not to mention the social and cultural excitement, and
weak competition from the next month of upcoming movies… it’s poised to
do some impressive box office.
I think
it’s going to easily make a billion dollars worldwide, and if it carries
on you could look at more than that. Ask Warner Brothers how much they
would like to see numbers like that. Or Sony. Or anyone in the movie
business.
It’s impressive, and deserved. Congratulations to the Black Panther team, to Marvel Studios, and Disney, who is used to success like this lately.
But guess what? Black Panther is IN Avengers: Infinity War, along with much of the same cast. The movie is partially set in Wakanda. If you like Black Panther (to the tune of over a billion dollars) then you’re going to see what happens next in three short months.
But wait, there’s more!
What about Doctor Strange? He’s in there.
Do you like the Guardians of the Galaxy? They’re dropping by.
What about Thor? Seen his three movies? He’s there.
Are you a fan of Tony Stark or Iron Man? There have been a few fans of those movies. He’s there too.
Do
you dig the Hulk, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Ant-Man, or
any of the supporting cast of every Marvel Studios films ever made?
Well, then you’ll see them in Avengers: Infinity War.
Additionally,
you’re going to see a story-line that was literally set-up a decade ago
come together in a big blockbuster event that has NEVER BEEN SEEN
BEFORE.
We’ve never seen a series of
movies in a shared universe do a massive crossover event even close to
this. It’s completely and totally unprecedented in the history of
cinema.
With that said, Marvel Studios still has to deliver on this movie. If the movie is a disappointment, and Black Panther keeps running, it could tighten up the race.
If Avengers: Infinity War is good though, then you can expect the box office numbers to be just as unprecedented as the event itself.
